Breaking a Celica Donor
Close up of engine and tranny on subframe. The struts
have been removed from the steering arm/ball joint.
The drawing shows one way to convert the strut for use
as an upright. This conversion requires some more
machine work for the upper mount, but avoids the use of
a spherical rod end, which may have limited travel.

The Moog K9626 is a Toyota truck upper ball joint. The
taper fits the strut's lower mount without the need for any
reaming. The Moog 772 is a Chrysler ('57-89) upper joint.
It is a little heavier than the Toyota part.

The use of the strut can be avoided by substituting HiAce
van parts. The van upright has the same 4-1/2" PCD as
the cars. It will have to be reamed to use the Moog rod
end and ball joint.
